GREAT LEATHERS MAKE GREAT BAGS.
Our Philosophy Our bags have to work as hard as you do and stand the test of time.
THE LEATHER: This Hobo legacy hide has been perfected over 15 years working with our Italian tannery and their generations of experience, to achieve an authentic beauty that celebrates leather’s natural imperfections. The result, the subtle broken-in effect found in your most well-loved possessions.
THE PROCESS: It starts by hand-selecting full-grain leathers, those that retain their original scars and marks. The tanning process imbues the deep undercurrent of color and our dyeing and waxing processes add vibrant hues that illuminate the surface.
"Our Vintage Hide is a study in contrasts, equal parts grit and grace with a distressed charm that is balanced with a subtle luster." - Koren Ray
THE LEATHER: The softest leather in our collection, its true beauty comes from the natural marks found only in the best American steer hides. The hand is undeniably silky yet our Velvet Hide boasts the strength and resilience to stand the test of time. Because no two hides are alike, the art of selecting the perfect skin for each bag falls to the hands of the cutters and crafters who envision the completed design.
THE PROCESS: We use tanning methods that date back
hundreds of years to stretch, soften and color these supple skins. Extra time in the tumbling vats imparts softness, strength and deep color to our Velvet Hide leather.
"I was drawn to this leather because it begs to be touched. The slouch and drape make it perfect for handcrafted bags reminiscent of those crafted in my mom’s 70’s leather shop." - Koren Ray
THE LEATHER: Pared back to its natural state, Vachetta Hide is about finding the beauty in truth and appreciating things left as they are intended to be. These hides are not processed to remove imperfections, allowing the flaws to bring distinction and purity to bags created from them.
THE PROCESS: We use a simple vegetable tanning process that leaves the leather soft to the touch. Aniline dyes and minimal surface treatment further enhance the leather’s unique character.
"I love this pure, naked leather for its honesty and the patina it acquires over time and touches. Enhanced by marks that are unique to the wearer, like a thumbprint, no two are alike." - Koren Ray
THE LEATHER: Nothing channels the heritage of the 70’s like suede. Its boho tinged energy lends itself perfectly to soft, slouchy shapes and of course, all things fringe, a Hobo signature detail.
THE PROCESS: Tanned using the very best split cowhide skins, the surface is gently buffed, creating a casual, lightweight leather with a high-touch sueded surface that has the dimension to hold the most
beautiful saturated colors.
"I believe that nothing expresses your inner free spirit quite like suede. It is a nostalgic nod to a heritage leather, reimagined for today." - Koren Ray
THE LEATHER: Exceedingly durable and resistant to wear, this velvety nubuck boasts a robust elegance that is impossible to resist. Made better by time and touch, you will reach for these alluring bags for years to come.
THE PROCESS: Tanned using the very best full-grain cowhide skins, the surface is gently buffed to produce a velvety high-touch nap with rich nuances of tone and texture.
"The touch of this beautiful leather fills me with the same warmth and comfort I get wrapped in a cashmere throw on a rainy day; plush and familiar and always there." - Koren Ray
THE LEATHER: Strength, durability and the ultimate utility, Heritage Hide is crafted for life on the road. This full-grain American steer is made to work as hard as you do. Its casual, rugged charm is enhanced by wear and tear.
THE PROCESS: We mill this leather in old wooden drums to soften and mellow it. Drum dyeing with rich oils and natural colors imparts the rich, earthy hues and
reveals the true character and dense, supple touch.
"Rugged and warm, Heritage Hide becomes as much a part of you as your favorite broken-in jeans; getting better with use and wear and never, ever to be
parted with." - Koren Ray
